Roads, Pipelines, and Electrical Transmission
Question
Since pipelines are being used more and more for transporting, how does this affect the trucking industry?
Answer

In general, oil trucks are used for short-haul gathering transportation from producing wells to a pipeline or rail unloading facility. The increased presence of shorter, intrastate pipelines does have the positive effect of reducing longer, more expensive truck hauls and frees up the trucking fleet to service the growing number of producing wells. In short, trucking has always and will always play an vital role in North Dakota’s oil development and transportation. For more information on pipelines, check out "Pipelines 101" on the North Dakota Pipeline Authority website.

Bakken Basics
Question
On a frac job - how far back into the formation does it extend?
Answer

The distance into the formation a fracture stimulation extends depends on the mechanical properties of the rock as well as the rate, pressure, and physical properties of the fracturing fluid. The typical current Bakken fracture stimulation creates cracks that may be as long as 1,000-1,200 feet.
