The North Dakota Petroleum Council presented their Outstanding Service Award to Senator Connie Triplett at the Petroleum Council's 26th Annual Meeting in Medora. Triplett is from Grand Forks, ND and represents District 18 in the North Dakota Senate.
Ron Ness, President of the North Dakota Petroleum Council, said, “Senator Triplett is receiving this award today, not because she agrees with us or votes with us 100% of the time, but because she brings a true sense of reason and common sense to the legislative process. Senator Triplett’s willingness to listen and evaluate issues based upon their potential value to the state, citizens, and economy despite regional or partisan politics and work for a reasonable compromise is a virtue respected by nearly everyone involved in the legislative process.”
“During the 2007 session, Senator Triplett used these skills to find common ground and help advance and eventually support passage of several key issues to the Petroleum Council. She helped navigate a difficult bill dealing with oil exploration on the Three Affiliated Tribes through the legislature. She recognized the long-term economic potential for the state if the Bakken Play is successful and supported a tax incentive to encourage continued drilling of Bakken wells,” said Ness. Senator Triplett has been in the Senate since 2003. She is a native of Tolley, ND, a graduate of the University of North Dakota, and received her law degree from the University of Minnesota. She is married and has two sons and one stepson. She is a private practice Attorney in Grand Forks. She has also been a Grand Forks County Commissioner since 1993. She was honored with a Building Disaster-Resistant Community award by FEMA for her efforts to help rebuild downtown Grand Forks after the 1997 flood. North Dakota Petroleum Council’s Public Service Award is designed to acknowledge and reward legislators, elected officials, and other public servants who go beyond the normal call of duty to make our state a better place to live and work. The recipients of this award are selected for their excellence in public service and for their efforts to improve the business climate in the state while ensuring that all parties are treated fairly and rules and policies are followed.
