700 Attend Oil & Gas Town Hall Meetings – Oil and Gas Town Hall Meetings hosted in Bowman, Watford City, Killdeer, Tioga, Stanley, and New Town exceeded expectations. Nearly 700 interested citizens were in attendance among the six locations. These individuals were the fuel that provided questions and input to help build a better understanding of the oil and gas industry in their respective locations. The Bakken area has been demanding the use of new technologies to better extract the oil and gas reserves that it holds. These Town Hall Meetings allowed people, with an interest in the industry’s advancing technology, to learn why the Bakken is such a unique area and how this technology is changing the oil and gas industry in North Dakota. State and local officials were also available to discuss the impacts the oil and gas industry has on their local communities. The North Dakota Petroleum Council, the North Dakota Association of Oil and Gas Producing Counties, and the North Dakota Oil and Gas Research Council would like to thank all those involved who helped make these Town Hall Meetings a huge success.

ND Attorney General Clarifies Opinion for Industry and Recorders – In the February E-News, we indicated concerns about a recent Attorney General’s opinion that would potentially limit access to county records. The Attorney General has since met with Petroleum Council representatives regarding the recent opinion and clarified that the opinion does not prevent counties from copying records off-site or having a third party pay for the copying. It does prohibit a third party from copying the records for their own use, but the county may still copy the records for resale. The Petroleum Council is confident this resolves any previous concerns and we want to thank the Attorney General for his attention to this issue.
Measure #1 - A Permanent Promise for North Dakota – In November, North Dakota voters will get a chance to vote on what the state should do with surplus oil and gas tax revenues. Measure #1 is a proposed constitutional amendment approved by the 2007 Legislature. A permanent fund will act like a savings account and the interest generated from the fund will be made available for spending. Your “yes” vote means we can hold the line on future tax increases for your future and your children’s future. This fund would be similar to what Alaska, Wyoming, New Mexico, Alabama, Texas, Norway, and the city of Dickinson, North Dakota do with their surplus oil revenues. The Petroleum Council Board of Directors has voted to support this Measure as a legacy for future generations and a mechanism to ensure the state has sustainable revenues from oil in the future. To learn more or sign-up in support of Measure #1 – see http://www.measure1nd.com/.
