The North Dakota Petroleum Council is a trade association that represents more than 200 companies involved in all aspects of the oil and gas industry including oil and gas production, refining, pipeline, transportation, mineral leasing, consulting, legal work, and oil field service activities in North Dakota, South Dakota, and the Rocky Mountain Region. Petroleum Council members produced 95% of the 77 million barrels of oil produced in North Dakota in 2009.

On August 15, the Fargo Forum unveiled a series titled “Running With Oil.” This series was one of the largest journalism projects in the Forum Communications’ history and included nearly 45 articles and videos. An archived Web site has been created and can be viewed at www.runningwithoil.com.
