INDUSTRY TO LEAD THE WAY IN PLANTING 55,000 TREES IN NORTH DAKOTA

The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) is partnering with the Outdoor Heritage Fund (OHF), ONEOK, private landowners and wildlife groups to launch a new program dedicated to planting trees throughout North Dakota. Called “Planting for the Future,” this Partnership will leverage industry, landowner and conservation resources for large tree and shrub plantings that will help with conservation, soil preservation and habitat for deer, pheasants and other wildlife. Already, more than 50 landowners from across the state have expressed interest in participating in the project.

The Partnership’s goal is to complete up to 30 planting projects within the next three years and leverage OHF funds, landowner and industry contributions to plant at least 55,000 trees. The trees will be monitored for up to three years to ensure successful plantings. In addition to working with landowners, Planting for the Future plans to partner with Mule Deer Foundation, Pheasants Forever and other local conservation and sportsmen groups to provide trees and shrubs for their projects.

The OHF grant will help fund the planting of 55,000 trees within a three-year period, but NDPC president Ron Ness is optimistic that a majority will be planted within the next two years. He expects the program will continue well beyond the grant end-date and welcomes participation from other companies. Companies willing to get involved in the program can help in one of two ways:

  1. Donate to the NDPC Planting for the Future program to help purchase trees or cover costs.
  2. Connect with one or more of the applicants directly to assist them with their project.

USGS WILL CONDUCT UPDATED RESOURCE ESTIMATE OF WILLISTON BASIN

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) will conduct an updated comprehensive, broad-based resource estimate for the Williston Basin. The USGS notified Senator John Hoeven earlier this month that it will undertake the analysis as a result of a meeting he hosted in Bismarck with USGS Acting Director William Werkheiser. Hoeven brought Werkheiser to the state to hear firsthand from energy leaders about the latest data, geological surveys and technical achievements in the oil field.

Hoeven spearheaded a similar effort that resulted in the latest USGS study from 2013, which more than doubled the estimates of technically recoverable oil at that time, from 3.65 billion barrels to 7.4 billion barrels.

ENERGY AWARENESS CAMPAIGN OFF TO A GREAT START

Jaden Schmitz, Jacob Moeykens and Jase Rogness from Hazen High School won the first round of the #ShowYourEnergy competition with their video outlining how energy affects our morning routine, how we communicate, how we travel and even how some of us see things. #ShowYourEnergy was launched in October of this year

#ShowYourEnergy was launched by Gov. Doug Burgum as part of Energy Awareness Month in October to raise awareness about energy by focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics program. The program is sponsored by the North Dakota Petroleum Council’s Energy of North Dakota program. Learn more at www.showyourenergy.com.

Bilfinger Westcon and Mann Energy Services each won $1,000 to donate to the charity of their choice for collecting the most toys.

“We want to thank all our member companies who participated and helped bring joy into so many children’s holidays this year,” said Tiffany Steiner, Marketing and Membership Manager for the NDPC and coordinator of this year’s drive.
